  • Eating and drinking slowly. Eating and drinking when on a run or when we are stressed increase the amount of air we swallow.
  • Avoid carbonated beverages - The carbon dioxide gas in the drink can cause belching.
  • Take a walk - Its helps to go for a stroll after eating.
  • Stop smoking - we swallow air when we smoke.

1. fennel

A infusion of fennel in a form of tea or chewing a teaspoon of roasted fennel is a good digestive. Taking it after meals helps in digestion.

2. peppermint tea

Infuse the crushed peppermint leaves or tea bag in boiling water for 5 to 10 minutes, depending on the strength of the tea required. Strain the infusion and drink between meals. Preparation time-5-10 minutes Dosage-2 to 3 cups 3 to 4 times in a day between meals.

Peppermint oil is also used in irritable bowel syndrome. It may interfere with the certain medication.

3. eno fruit salt

The age old remedy of taking Eno Fruit Salt for it is still applicable. If you do not have it at home, make your own. Too much of it can cause rebound acidity, so do not make it a habit. Mix together half a spoon of cooking soda or baking powder, a tablespoon of fresh lime juice and a teaspoon of fresh ginger juice in a glass of water and drink it.

You can mix half a teaspoon of baking soda and dried ginger powder and have it with hot water before your meal, if you habitually suffer from flatulence (This has high amount of sodium ions, hence is not good for those with hypertension).

4. carom seeds

A teaspoon of crushed carrom seeds with a few drops of lime juice with warm water gives relief.

Grind together and, store 100 grams of carom seeds, 100 grams of ginger powder and 25 grams of rock salt. When needed take a teaspoon of the mixture with warm water. You can add a fresh lime juice to make a soothing drink.

5. turmeric

Turmeric is useful intestinal antiseptic. Turmeric juice or powder mixed in buttermilk or powder is beneficial in intestinal problems. A teaspoon of turmeric in a glass and salt, drink while still hot gives immediate relief.

6. Aniseed

Aniseed is an very good for expelling wind from the stomach.  An easy way to prepare its infusion is to mix a teaspoon in a cup of boiling water and keep it overnight. Strain and mix honey in that water. This helps in indigestion and is also useful in preventing gas and fermentation in the stomach and intestine.

7. Rosemary

Rosemary is also helpful in reliving flatulence. Drinking rosemary tea twice a day helps in indigestion. It helps in the digestion of starchy foods and meats like pork, beef and lamb.
